Come to the edge… how does that make you feel? Excited? Scared? Curious? Dizzy?
I recently spent time at the Grand Canyon. This time it was a totally different experience from my first visit. This time I calmly sat on the edge, without the pounding heart and feeling of panic at being so close to the extreme drop off.
What had changed?
I’ve grown into a risk taker – one small step at a time, until what once scared the bejeezus out of me, I no longer let bother me. I focus my attention on what I do want rather than on what I don’t want.
I sat on the edge at Pima Point so I could photograph the glorious sunset. My mind was on the play of light and array of ever changing colors as the sun gradually slid below the mesas and peaks of the overlook.
Could I have fallen? Certainly. Was I too close to the drop off? Probably. Did I care? Not really. I was taking a calculated risk to do what I love.
It was worth it. Enough said.
The next risk will be even bigger…and better.
Now it’s your turn…
Where’s your edge? What “what-iffing” holds you back? Building your courage muscle takes time, with lots of baby steps. So, what’s one little thing you can do – today – to come closer to the edge? Because once you reach your edge…you WILL fly.
