Happy New Year! Happy New Decade!

As I start my New Year, I am wiping the slate clean. I have ceremoniously bid farewell to the challenges of last year with fire, sage, and my journal. I’ve also created a list of things I want to be rid of for this New Year, reflected on what I will do instead, and named the gifts that will become mine as a result. I feel a sense of lightness and hope. I am ready. How many of us take the time to reflect on the lessons learned from the previous year? For naming the gifts from our self-discovery and growth? How often to we just check things off and move on? How often do we just say, “That year’s over, OK, what’s next?” I know, I know. I can hear your gasp, “But I hardly have time for the things I’m supposed to do! How can I possibly find the time to reflect?” The better question is, “How can you not? If you don’t know where you’ve been, how can you possibly know where you’re going? (Thanks to Yogi Berra for letting me modify his quote, “If you don’t know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else.”) So, my challenge to you: find time in the next week, yes, really – in the next 7 days, while the year is still fresh -and reflect on what happened last year that has made you become who you are today.
