A dramatic cold front whooshed into the area yesterday, bringing with it the cool, crisp air of autumn. This is my favorite time of the year; incredibly blue skies (well, on the few days that there hasn’t been a deluge of rain…), brilliant leaf colors, and long, sharp shadows as the day ends. It is soooo delicious to finally be able to snuggle under a down comforter while the cool, fresh air wafts in from the bedroom window.
The days are growing shorter and evening comes much earlier. Outdoor activities must adapt. And yet… This newly emerging season causes me to stop and reflect, in effect to savor my harvest.
This year, to mark my birthday, which is in a few days, I have decided to spend time reconnecting with nature, celebrating my journey over the last 12 months – giving special attention to an acknowledgement of my accomplishments, and setting my intentions for the coming 12 months. Kind of like my own special New Year ritual.
To add fuel to this idea (thanks, SYM), I recently received a birthday discount coupon from my favorite clothing store. The accompanying card had a remarkable phrase on it: one year better. I immediately took this as a sign from the Universe that I am improving with age.
I’ve become a really, really good wine. Delicious, full-bodied, full of nuanced elements, with lots of power and richness of spirit. I’m worthy of a 95 rating by Wine Spectator!
Too often I spend more time focusing on what’s next than on relishing where I am now because of what I’ve done in the past. This birthday is going to be different. My gift to myself is celebrating whom I’ve become, fully aware that it’s only going to get better! I mean, the discount card confirmed it – no?
