I’ve had an interesting relationship with being the gutsy one. When I was a kid, I was always the neighborhood instigator, the daredevil. Tell me that I couldn’t do something, and I’d die trying to prove you wrong.
Somewhere along the line I lost that capacity, or perhaps I buried it because “nice girls” don’t go against the grain.
Following the advice of others, I diverged from my original career path to become a teacher - a “safe” choice. Again, ignoring my true, inner compass.
Fortuitously, I tired of teaching, and began a corporate career. Tentatively, and through the mentoring of several well-placed females, I began to let my true self appear occasionally. Each appearance emboldened me and gave me back a piece of my authentic self.
I carried this emerging self into my next career, where I purposefully pushed her to soar, awakening the joy of finally being true to the real me.
I also discovered my desire to coach other women so they, too, could find more personally and professionally fulfilling lives.
Today, after choosing to retire early from this career, the true me is in vivid Technicolor glory. The gutsy, daredevil girl is back and will never compromise again.
To reinforce this fact, and as a retirement gift to myself, I went on a Vision Quest in the canyon lands of Colorado: four solitary, fasting days, with only my camping gear, journal, and water purifier. It was there that I solidified my life&srquo;s calling: to help other women reawaken their most authentic selves so they can live their most wildly audacious lives.
